To really experience all that’s involved in a typical Tree Swallow nesting season you’ll need to create your own nest box project, with one nest box or several, and we heartily encourage you to do that. However, if you want to get a sense in advance of what managing a Tree Swallow project would be like, and experience a feel for the trials and tribulations these small birds face as they try to nest, we’ve got a suggestion for you. You can check out our diary of one complete nesting season at our own Tree Swallow Project nest box grid. It’s the next best thing to being there!
You’ll come with us into the field near Lake Ontario in western New York as we work for our swallows. We’ll be there from their arrival at our grid in early spring until their departure after fledging in mid-summer. You’ll share what we saw, thought and did as the season unfolded day by day. And you’ll explore the aspects of Tree Swallow behavior, ecology, and biology we witnessed. And along the way we’ll reveal our own motivations and concerns, and some of the management techniques we used as we attempted to serve these beautiful little songbirds on their quest to reproduce. Plus, we’ll divert occasionally to explore some related issues and events we believe you’ll find interesting.
We really think you’ll enjoy this Tree Swallow diary-style narrative. It was a memorable season in many ways! And recording and analyzing the events that occurred added a new and pleasurable dimension to our own Tree Swallow experiences. Plus, we believe this account contains knowledge sure to be useful when you embark on your own Tree Swallow adventure. So, with no further ado please join us now One Season With The Tree Swallows At Salmon Creek.
And of course when you’re done you can come on back to the main website at Creating and Managing Tree Swallow Nest Box Projects.
